Halvorsen, Robert E. 'Bud'
Robert E. “Bud” Halvorsen, 85, lifelong Coralville resident and businessman, passed away peacefully on Thursday, July 15, 2010, surrounded by his family, at Lantern Park Care Center. Funeral services will be held at 4 p.m. Sunday, July 18, at Lensing's Oak Hill, Coralville, with the Rev. Gail Mitchell officiating. Visitation will be Sunday from 2 to 4 p.m. at the funeral home. Graveside services, with military honors, will be held at 10 a.m. Monday at Oak Hill Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to The River Community Church Youth Group.
Robert E. Halvorsen was born Nov. 30, 1924, in Coralville, the son of John Hans and Maude Allmand Halvorsen. He served in the U.S. Marine Corps. On Aug. 8, 1948, he married Jean Ann Abshire. Bud owned Bud's Dodge Street DX in Iowa City. He and business partner Leo Beuter opened “RV Clinic” in Coralville, where they repaired RVs and sold camping gear. Following his retirement from RV Clinic Bud kept busy helping his sons in their construction and customized embroidery businesses.
Survivors include his two sons, James Halvorsen (Donna Zimmerman) of Coralville and Jerry (Clarine) Halvorsen of Iowa City; six grandchildren, Sheila (Kevin) Grimm of Iowa City, Jason (Jade) Halvorsen of Prairie du Chien, Wis., Calvin Halvorsen of Washington, D.C., and Ariel Halvorsen, Sydney Halvorsen and Jake Halvorsen, all of Iowa City; four great-grandchildren, Keeley Grimm, Berkley Grimm and Lainey Grimm, all of Iowa City, and Summit Halvorsen of Prairie du Chien, Wis.; his brother, William Halvorsen of Coralville; and his sister, Alta (Dale) Deevers of Orlando, Fla.
Bud was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Jean; and a granddaughter, Jennifer Halvorsen.
