Lorack, Ruth Alwine
Ruth Alwine Lorack, 98, of Coralville, died Monday, Sept. 5, 2011, at Windmill Manor in Coralville. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Friday, Sept. 9, at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Hills. Burial will be at Oak Hill Cemetery in Coralville. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday at Lensing's Oak Hill, 210 Holiday Rd., Coralville.
Ruth was born Nov. 21, 1912, in Iowa County, Iowa, the daughter of Alexis and Edith (Chapman) Wade. She grew up in Wellman and graduated from Wellman High School in 1930. Ruth completed training to teach school and taught for four years. She married Clarence Alwine on June 12, 1934, in Iowa City. The couple lived in Coralville from 1934 to 1964 and in Cedar Rapids from 1964 until Clarence's death in 1978. On March 3, 1979, Ruth married Arthur Lorack in Cedar Rapids. Art and Ruth moved to Hills in 1990. He died in 2006. She continued to live in Hills until moving to Windmill Manor in 2009.
Ruth was a member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Hills, and was the senior dining manager for Congregate Meals and the Altar & Rosary Society.
Survivors include two daughters, Marian Brown of Coralville and Donna (George) Alt of West Liberty; two sons, Kenneth (Roxie) Alwine of Iowa City and Daryle (Pauline) Alwine of Longview, Wash.; 10 grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren.
Ruth was preceded in death by her parents; both of her husbands; her four brothers, LaMont, Dean, Daryle and Calvin Wade; her sisters, Helen and Gayle; her son-in-law, Gene; and one grandson, Gary Brown.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Iowa City Hospice or Camp Courageous.
