Linn Community Food Bank looking for help

The Linn Community Food Bank, an all-volunteer nonprofit organization that has served the Cedar Rapids-Marion community for more than 40 years, is facing the perfect storm. We are serving more people than ever before because of the needs in our community. Food prices are increasing, and we are limited in our ability to purchase from HACAP (Hawkeye Area Community Action Program) because of government cuts. All this adds up to more resources needed. In 2011, we spent an average of $2,238 per month to feed needy families. So far in 2012, the average is $7,985 per month!
Linn Community Food Bank receives no government support and operates completely with the help and support of volunteers. The Cedar Rapids-Marion community has always generously supported the Food Bank in the past. We once again look to our community for help. Is your church, workplace or organization able to hold a food drive? Can you make a monetary donation?
If yes, please contact the Linn Community Food Bank at 310 Fifth Street SE, Cedar Rapids, IA 52401 or phone (319) 364-3543.
