Claudine Hixson, 88, of Cedar Rapids, departed this world on July 27, 2016, after a long illness. Visitation will be held from 2 to 6 p.m. Sunday at Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home. Funeral service is 11 a.m. Monday at Cedar Memorial Park Chapel of Memories. Burial will be at Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery.
Claudine was born March 7, 1928, in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, to Charles and Ruth Kent. She married Harold Hixson on April 6, 1947. She was a lifelong member of Salem United Methodist Church. Claudine worked for Penick and Ford until she started the family. While raising her children, she began work at the Linn County auditor's office in 1961 and retired in 1994. She was also the first Linn County budget director and the first woman in Iowa to hold that position.
She belonged to Quota Club International. She was a member of IACREOT. She was a founding member of the Cedar Rapids Emmaus community. She loved the outdoors, camping, hiking, fishing, bird watching and hunting. Most of all she loved her family and friends and never had a bad thing to say about anybody.
Survivors include her husband of 69 years, Harold; daughter, Vicki (Bill) Funke of Byron, Ill.; two sons, Randy (Dee) and Mark (Lori), both of Cedar Rapids; grandchildren, Dan Funke, Holly (Scott) Lawless, John Hixson, Aaron Hixson, Brian Hixson, Kelly Hixson and Harrison Hixson; great-grandson, Liam Hixson; brother, Robert Kent; and many cousins, nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; infant daughter, Marcia Lynn; sister-in-law, Pat Kent; and brothers-in-law, John and Charles Hixson.
A memorial fund has been established in Claudine's name.
