Zelezny, Marjorie McConnell
Marjorie McConnell Zelezny, 87, of Cedar Rapids, died Friday, Aug. 13, 2010. at Mercy Medical Center following a short illness. Funeral Mass: 10 a.m. Wednesday at St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church, by the Rev. Chris Podhajsky. Burial: St. John Cemetery. A rosary will be recited Tuesday at 6 p.m. at Teahen Funeral Home, where friends may visit from 4 to 7 p.m.
Marjorie is survived by four children, Bernard (Vi) Steine and Patricia Gibson, both of Cedar Rapids, Norma (Vince) Arioso of Marion and Deborah (Randy) Wuehle of North Liberty; seven grandchildren, Lorette, Sherry, Joe, April, Austina, Vince Jr. and Candice; and seven great-grandchildren, Jake, Nick, Secily, Malynn, Quintin, T.J. and Rheagan.
She was preceded in death by her husband; brother, Lester McConnell; sister, Bernadine Rude; and son-in-law, D. Bruce Gibson.
Marjorie was born Jan. 12, 1923, in Bluffton, Iowa, the daughter of Patrick and Alice Maley McConnell. She married Dennis Zelezny on June 28, 1968, in Camden, Mo. Marjorie worked for the Cedar Rapids school board, retiring in 1982. She was a member of St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church for many years.
Marjorie loved nature. She enjoyed watching birds and deer, gardening, and traveling with her husband. Marjorie loved life and above all spending time with her family.
