Carradus, Jeanne Y.
Jeanne Y. Carradus, 87, of Iowa City, died Sunday, Aug. 2, 2009, at Iowa City Care Center following an extended illness.
Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at St. Wenceslaus Church with Rev. Michael Phillips and Deacon David Reha officiating. Graveside services will be at 1:30 p.m. at Silver Creek Cemetery, rural Ryan. Visitation will be Wednesday from 4 to 7 p.m. at Lensing Funeral and Cremation Service, Iowa City, where a rosary will be recited at 6:30 p.m. A memorial fund has been established.
Jeanne was born Dec. 14, 1921, in Cedar Rapids, the daughter of Walker McKinley and Lillian (Miles) Phillips. She graduated in 1941 from Mount Mercy Academy in Cedar Rapids. On June 29, 1947, she was united in marriage to Francis Carradus. Following marriage, Jeanne and Francis farmed in the Manchester area, and in 1959 they moved to Central City, where she was employed by Collins Radio. In 1981 they moved to Iowa City. Jeanne worked at The Knitting Shoppe on Muscatine Avenue. Francis died in 1987.
Jeanne was an artistically gifted woman. She loved to sew, knit, crochet, quilt and do ceramics, to name a few of her favorite endeavors.
Jeanne is survived by her son Jeff (Angel) Carradus of Scottsdale, Ariz.; her daughter, Joyce (Leon) Soukup of Central City; daughter-in-law, Pam Carradus of Langworthy; eight grandchildren, Hunter David, Tammy, Sara, Joe, John, Katie, Kevin and Greg; 11 great- and two great-great-grandchildren; her sister, Geraldine (Clifford) Drummey of Fairfield.
She was preceded in death by her husband; her son Phillip; daughter-in-law Nancy; and her beloved cat, Muffin.
