Lewis F. Rabe, 101, a resident of Rose Haven Nursing Home in Marengo, died Friday, Feb. 12, 2016. Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 16, at Grace Lutheran Church in Blairstown. Interment will be in Pleasant Hill Cemetery, Blairstown. Visitation will be from 3 to 6 p.m. Monday at Phillips Funeral Home in Blairstown.
Memorials may be directed to Grace Lutheran Church.
Lewis was born Nov. 11, 1914, in Irving, Iowa, to Leo and Ruth (Fisher) Rabe. He attended Camel Hump country school southwest of Blairstown. On June 1, 1938, Lewis was united in marriage to Helen O. Pease in Cedar Rapids. They farmed together southwest of Blairstown nearly all of their married life. In 1980, they retired and moved to town. Helen preceded Lewis in death on Dec. 5, 1997.
He was a longtime member of Grace Lutheran Church in Blairstown. Lewis was known to be a very patient grandfather and enjoyed fishing.
Lewis is survived by his half sister, Irene Raub of Cedar Falls; his children, Leo Rabe of Promise City, Jack (Peg) Rabe of Blairstown and Janet (David) Jones of Eagle Grove; his seven grandchildren, Lisa, Jason, Andrew, Adam, Matthew, Mark and Mimi; his 14 great-grandchildren, Stephanie, Colton, Clayton, Kaleb, Samantha, Aiden, Elijah, Alivia, Asher, Alex, Logan, Shakira, Tatianna and Shania; and his one great-great- granddaughter, Peyton.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Helen; brother, Wayne Rabe; sister, Velma Pease; half brother, Roy Wandling; and half sister, Rachel Selk.
