Vontalge, Rhoda M.
Rhoda M. Vontalge, 96, of Manchester, died Saturday, Feb. 2, 2013, at the Good Neighbor Home in Manchester. Funeral Services will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 6, at the United Methodist Church in Manchester, by the Rev. Mike Druhl. Visitation will be from 3 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Bohnenkamp-Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Services in Manchester. Additional visitation will be one hour before services at the church on Wednesday. Burial will be in Oakland Cemetery, Manchester.
Rhoda was born June 22, 1916, near Colesburg, Iowa, the daughter of William and Ella (Jung) Hartbecke. She graduated from Colesburg High School in 1936. On Jan. 13, 1939, Rhoda was united in marriage to Roy E. Vontalge at her mother's home.
Rhoda was a homemaker and also a woman of faith. She enjoyed gardening, sewing, quilting, and playing cards. She was a member of the Manchester United Methodist Church, the Calico Cut-ups and two card clubs. She was a collector of teddy bears and Longenberger baskets. Rhoda was known for her homemade angel food cakes she made for any occasion.
Rhoda is survived by two children, Gary (Dona) Vontalge and Linda (Ron) Gearhart, both of Manchester; three grandchildren, Alan (Lisa) Vontalge of Johnston, Kevin (Melinda) Gearhart of Marion and Jaci (fiance Adam Hamlett) Vontalge of Manchester; and four great-grandchildren, Emma and Hunter Vontalge and Cameron and Megan Gearhart.
Rhoda was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Roy; four siblings, Louis Hartbeck, Velma Hammerand, Hulda Hammerand and Floyd Hartbecke; and a brother-in-law, Ray Vontalge.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be directed to the Good Neighbor Home in Manchester.
