LARRY IRVIN MARTINSON

Larry Irvin Martinson, 75, of Center Point, Iowa, passed away Sunday, Sept. 30, 2018, at his home surrounded by his family. Visitation: 1 to 3 p.m. Friday, Oct. 5, at Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Center Point. Funeral service: 4:30 p.m. Friday, Oct. 5, at Lafayette Christian Church. A private family burial will be held at Mount Calvary Cemetery, Cedar Rapids.
Larry was born April 28, 1943, in Marengo, Iowa, the son of Irvin and Marcella (Mumm) Martinson. He was a 1962 graduate of Washington High School in Cedar Rapids. Larry married Cathleen Sue Runge-Drahos in Cedar Rapids on Nov. 15, 1963. In his youth, Larry was a paperboy and worked for the family sod business since he was 14. In 1979, Larry took over the business and changed the name to Larry I. Martinson Sodding Inc. He was the owner for 39 years until his death. Larry was a member of AMO Car Club and Turf Grass International. He also was a scout leader and head trustee for his church.
Survivors include his wife, Cathleen "Sue" Martinson of Center Point; sons, Larry L. (Diane) Martinson of Marion, Iowa, and Dale A. (Tammi) Martinson of Center Point; grandchildren, Amanda Martinson of Ankeny, Iowa, Kurt L. (Catie) Martinson of Wichita, Kan., Forrest A. Martinson of Anchorage, Alaska, Kelsey P. Martinson of Cedar Rapids and Wyatt M. Martinson of Cedar Rapids; and five great-grandchildren.
Larry was preceded in death by his father, Irvin E. Martinson; and son, Allen F. Martinson.
