Leland Wayne Nowadzky, 89, of Cedar Rapids, died Sunday, March 12, 2017, at St. Luke's Hospital, Cedar Rapids. Services: 10:30 a.m. Thursday, March 16, at Our Savior's Lutheran Church, Cedar Rapids. Visitation: 4 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, March 15, at Murdoch-Linwood Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Cedar Rapids. Pastor Phil Jorgensen will officiate. Burial: Linwood Cemetery, Cedar Rapids.
Leland Wayne Nowadzky was born Feb. 29, 1928, in Cedar Rapids, the son of Archie and Edna (Coates) Nowadzky. He married Ruth Ellen Storm on June 3, 1950, in Wyoming, Iowa, and had two children, Beverly and Jerry. Lee joined the Army in 1945 and served in the Medical Battalion in Korea. Upon returning, he graduated from Roosevelt High School, Cedar Rapids, in 1949. He worked at LaPlante-Choate, Allis Chalmers and Harnischfeger for a combined 37 years.
Lee was a member of Our Savior's Lutheran Church for more than 50 years. He also was a member of UAW Retirees Club and the Waltonian Archers Club. Lee loved bowling, fishing, hunting and his favorite pastime, music.
Survivors include his wife, Ruth; children, Beverly (Nowadzky) Clymer and Jerry (Susan) Nowadzky; five grandchildren, John S. (Teresa) Clymer, Lori Clymer, Spencer (Judy) Nowadzky, Jessie (Brian) Dirks and Sam Nowadzky; 12 great-grandchildren, Alexis, Daisy and Johnny Clymer, Colton Lee, Lauryn, Kaitlyn and Lane Nowadzky, Rachel, Keegan and Isaiah Dirks, Travis and Katie; and many nieces and nephews.
Lee was preceded in death by his parents, Art and Edna Nowadzky, sister, Maxine Strauss; and a son-in-law.
