Ulferts, Rudolph J. 'Rudy'
Rudolph J. "Rudy" Ulferts, 73, of Marshalltown, formerly of Springville, died Friday, Jan. 4, 2013, at the Iowa Veterans Home, Marshalltown, following a battle with Parkinson's disease. Funeral service: 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 9, at Ascension Lutheran Church, Marion, by Pastor Linda Livingston. The family will greet friends from 4 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 8, at Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Center, Marion, and one hour before the service at the church on Wednesday. Graveside service: 2 p.m. Wednesday at Oakwood Cemetery, Monticello.
Survivors include his daughter, Dawn (John) Butler of Marion; his son, Trevor (Becky) Ulferts of Cedar Rapids; his daughter, Amy (Hugo) Martinez of Marion; eight grandchildren, Dan (Pam) Butler of Knoxville, Tenn., Eric (Chris) Butler of Marion, Brandon Taylor of Anamosa, Lilly Ulferts of Hendersonville, Tenn., Cameron Ulferts of Marion, Grace Ulferts of Cedar Rapids and Maya and Ivan Martinez of Marion; siblings, George (Darlene) Ulferts of Central City, Harold (Myra) Ulferts of Tuscaloosa, Ala., Allen Ulferts of Cedar Rapids, Ernest (Barb) Ulferts of Sioux City, Marilee Dinc of Tuscaloosa, Ala., Carole Baker of Tipton and Richard Dahl and Janice Townsend of Cedar Rapids; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Lois; a son, Brian Taylor; two brothers and a sister.
Rudy was born July 27, 1939, the son of Louis and Amy (Harms) Ulferts, in Monticello, Iowa. He enlisted in the U.S. Army as a Motor Transport Operator, 64C, stationed in Germany. Rudy was a motorcycle mechanic for several years, working for Wilson's Honda and P&H Manufacturing, both in Cedar Rapids, Bernie's Harley Davidson, North Liberty, and Hawk I Harley Davidson, Coralville.
Rudy enjoyed woodworking, being outside working on projects, and general tinkering.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established in Rudy's memory.
