Robert Victor Cousins was born Jan. 4, 1957, in Burlington, Iowa, the son of Robert and Mary (Smith) Cousins. Following graduation from Burlington High School in 1975, he moved to Iowa City and enrolled at the University of Iowa where he received a bachelor's degree in computer programming. He worked many jobs in the related field, at places such as Oral-B, NCS, MCI WorldCom and Alliant Energy, before returning to NCS under the new name of Pearson. He was still working at Pearson at the time of his death.
Rob enjoyed his life, traveling and learning different languages – Sign Language, Chinese, Spanish and Brazilian Portuguese. He enjoyed playing computer video games (very seriously), was a lifelong bowler, still bowling through his cancer, and of course enjoyed his Harley. He was a member of the HOG chapter from Hawkeye Harley Davidson. Rob loved riding his motorcycle for the better part of his adulthood; it was only second to the love he had for his grandchildren. He loved being Popi!
His family includes his five grandchildren, Kyle, Ethan, Skylar, Samantha and Hilma Jo; his former wife, Gayle Miller-Sheely (Robin); his gaming buddy, bowling partner, co-worker and best friend, Anthony Willard; and his daughter, Kaytie Cousins (Eric Bagg).
