Robert E. Kauffman, 81, of Columbus, Ohio, died Tuesday, June 12, 2018. He was born to Cecilia and Edward Kauffman in St. Louis, Mo., on Oct. 31, 1936, and married the former Rita Rittger on Jan. 30, 1970.

Robert is survived by his wife, Rita, who remembers years of adventure, love and laughter. He graduated from St. Louis University and Washington University, St. Louis, and studied electric engineering.

His career included Collins Radio in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, and Holt Industries, Oconto, Wis. He retired from ABB Automation Group (formerly Industrial Nucleonics), Columbus, Ohio, in 2000 after 27 years.

Robert is remembered fondly for his positive attitude regardless of the situation. He enjoyed the many people he and Rita met throughout their marriage of 48 years. Sports were an important part of his life. Whether it was skiing in the mountains with his friends or playing soccer, he was having the time of his life.

Thanks to our friends at Ohio Living Westminster Thurber and Goodale Landing for their love and support throughout the final years of his life. Special thanks to Dr. Kevin Schroeder, who was with Bob from the beginning of his final journey until the end.

A Memorial Mass will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, June 20, at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church, 386 Buttles Ave., Columbus, Ohio. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made in Bob's memory to The Disadvantaged Youth Services Endowment Fund in care of The Catholic Diocese of Columbus, 257 E. Broad, Columbus, OH 43215.
