J.W. Flowers, 81, of Cedar Rapids, passed away Monday, Nov. 6, 2017, at The Gardens of Cedar Rapids. Arrangements by Murdoch-Linwood Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Cedar Rapids.
J.W. was born June 18, 1936, in Centralia, Ill., the son of Charles and Nellie (Boen) Flowers. He married the former Mary E. Jones of Salem, Ill., on June 19, 1954, in Gulfport, Miss. He, Mary and their three children finally settled in Cedar Rapids in September 1974 after he retired from the U.S. Air Force as a master sergeant with 21 years of active duty service. He was employed in December 1974 as an electronic technician with the Federal Aviation Administration at the Cedar Rapids Airport control tower. He retired from that position in June 2000.
J.W. is survived by his children, James (Cynthia) Flowers of Ocean Springs, Miss., Greg (Jackie) Flowers of Cedar Rapids and Cindy Luth of Cedar Rapids; seven grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and sisters, Maxine Hamburg and Darlene Edwards, both of Centralia, Ill.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary, who passed away in 2015; parents, one brother and two sisters.
