Stewart, James B.
James B. Stewart, 85, died Monday, Oct. 5, 2009, at Central Community Hospital in Elkader following a long illness. Mass of Christian Burial: 11 a.m. today at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Elkader, with the Rev. Paul R. Peters as Celebrant.
Jim was born Feb. 12, 1924, in Armstrong, to Guy B. and Bernice O. (Aarvig) Stewart. He graduated from Elkader High School in 1942 and from Elkader Junior College in 1944. Jim served in the United States Army Signal Corps from 1944 to 1947, when he was honorably discharged. On June 7, 1948, he was united in marriage to Evelyn Moyna. Jim worked for the Northwestern Bell System for 38 years.
Survivors include his wife, Evelyn of Elkader; his sons, Dan (Karen) Stewart of St. Olaf, Dave (Cindy) Stewart of Dubuque; his daughter, Jane (Tim) Koehn of Elkader; eight grandchildren, Shannon (Kolin) Korsi, Jessie Koehn (Chris Allan), Jill Koehn (Chris Lansing), Jake (Mandy) Koehn, Jeff Stewart, Chris Stewart, Jenny Stewart, Carrie (Travis) Kraus; and six great-grandchildren, Jenna Koehn, Kade and Shaye Korsi, Samantha and Jonah Koehn, and Ella Kraus.
Jim was preceded in death by his parents, Guy and Bernice Stewart; a sister, Georgianna Smith; and three brothers-in-law, Cecil Moyna, Ed Moyna, and Forde Smith.
