Christy Klees, 62, of Cedar Rapids, passed peacefully at her home on Sunday, Dec. 6, 2015. Family will greet friends from 4 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 9, at Murdoch-Linwood Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Cedar Rapids. Service: 11 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 10, at the funeral home conducted by Chaplain Mike Slagenweit-Coffman. Burial: Linwood Cemetery, Cedar Rapids.
Survivors include her husband, Greg Klees of Cedar Rapids; her mother, Lorraine Ehrman; children, Amanda (Quintin) Fort of Center Junction, Katrinka Klees of Waterloo, Joey Klees of Maquoketa, Al Klees of Cedar Rapids and Kiera Klees of Cedar Rapids; daughter-in-law, Heidi Remmark of Waterloo; grandchildren, Audrey Fort, Wyatt Fort and Jalen Klees; siblings, Patti Mote of Cedar Rapids, Sandy (Jack) Thompson of Cedar Rapids and Barb (John) Gilbertson of Blairstown; and many nieces, nephews and foster children.
She was preceded in death by her father.
Christy was born on Jan. 4, 1953, in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, the daughter of Willard and Lorraine (McMahon) Ehrman. She graduated from Jefferson High School, Cedar Rapids. On June 30, 1973, she married Gregory Klees at St. Ludmila Church, Cedar Rapids. Christy worked for Wilson Packaging, FMC, was co-owner of Superior Door Company in Waukon, a group home in Waukon and then later helped with the Silver Bullet Basketball Team. She became a stay-at-home mother to her foster children, adopting several of them. Christy also worked as a para-educator in the Cedar Rapids schools working with children with disabilities.
Looking at memories and letters from others and in talking to friends and family, everyone knew how caring and giving she was. She was strong, confident, funny and joyous. We all thought she would get better, but her body was tired.
The family requests that memorials be made to Camp Courageous, the ARC or St. Jude Children's Hospital.
