Haag, Germaine T.
Germaine T. Haag, 89, of Monticello, died peacefully and surrounded by her family Thursday, Feb. 24, 2011, at her residence. Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Monday, Feb. 28, at Kramer Funeral Home in Monticello, where a parish Scripture service will be held at 8 p.m. Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Tuesday, March 1, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Monticello. Burial: St. Francis Cemetery, Dyersville. The Rev. Keith Birch will officiate.
Germaine was born Feb. 8, 1922, in Dyersville, Iowa, the daughter of Bernard “Ben” and Frances (Sabres) Goerdt. She graduated from high school, traveled and worked out of state, and returned to Iowa and married Victor Haag in 1946 at St. Mary's Church in Dubuque.
She worked for HACAP in Monticello and Anamosa for 44 years during which she organized the congregate meal site in Monticello.
Surviving are four children, Dennis Haag of Waukon, Michele (Ray) McIntire of Jesup, Jude (Rhona) Haag of Olin and Anne Foster of Monticello; five grandchildren, Silvia Brown and Tony Brown (who was raised by Germaine), Andrea, Jerame and Timothy Foster; nine great-grandchildren; a sister, Bernice Lund of Santa Barbara, Calif.; a brother, Alvin Goerdt of Clinton; and brothers- and sisters-in-law, Virgil Haag and Kathryn Haag of Monticello and Greg (Claretta) Haag of New Orleans, La.
She was preceded in death by her husband; one great-grandchild, JT Yarolem; and two brothers, Elmer and LaVern Goerdt.
