DORIS BALDWIN
Cedar Rapids
Doris Mae Baldwin, 75, formerly of Cedar Rapids, passed away Thursday, Sept. 4, 2014, at Christian Community Home, Hudson, Wis., following a long illness. Friends and family are invited to attend a visitation with Doris' family on Friday, Sept. 12, from 5:30 to 7 p.m., and a memorial service to celebrate Doris' life on Saturday, Sept. 13, at 10:30 a.m. by the Rev. Leroy Bradway at Teahen Funeral Home in Cedar Rapids, located at 3100 F Ave. NW.
Doris is survived by her daughters, Tina Matejka of San Mateo, Calif., and Mary (husband Brian) Lloyd of Hudson, Wis.; and her treasured grand-children, Joshua Matejka of Iowa City and Anna and Jack Lloyd of Hudson, Wis.
Doris was preceded in death by her brothers, Charles Jackson Jr. (Jack), James (Jim) and Andrew (Andy); and her beloved sister, Dorothy.
Doris was born Doris Mae Foster on Sept. 14, 1938, in Iowa City, Iowa, to Charles Jackson Sr. and Pauline Foster. Doris was the youngest of five children. She and her siblings spent several years in Muscatine at the Lutheran Home for Children. She often spoke of many fond memories she had while in Muscatine and returned often to reminisce. She graduated from McKinley Senior High School in Cedar Rapids.
Doris worked for many years as a Certified Nurse Aide (CNA) at Living Center West in Cedar Rapids. She enjoyed working with "the old folks" and made a point to try to brighten their day.
Doris loved listening to her country and western music (Gene Autry and Tex Ritter being some of her favorites), being with her family, listening to old time radio classics and telling her "famous" jokes to both family and strangers. She especially enjoyed telling strangers she grew up in a "foster home," ultimately receiving sympathy, and then laughing as she announced her maiden name was "Foster."
She always had a smile to share and compassion and friendship to give.
The family requests donations be sent in her memory to the Alzheimer's Foundation.
Online condolences may be left for the family at www.teahenfuneral home.com.
