He entered into eternal life peacefully, knowing the love of his family and friends surrounded him. Larry was born Oct. 26, 1938, in Waterloo, Iowa, to Alfred and Doris (Clute) Shelton. He was preceded in death by his parents, as well as his brother, Gary Copland, and his sister, Sherry Hardy. At the age of 17, Larry enlisted and served our country in the armed forces and was a proud Marine until the day he passed. Larry was a Worshipful Master of the Masonic Temple, as well as a member of the Mini Patrol in the Shriners. Over the years his hobbies included camping, hunting and riding motorcycles to name a few. Larry left behind his spouse of two years, Cindy Shelton; his two children, Lance (Kristy) Shelton, Chicago, and Kara Shelton, Anamosa, whom he shared with former wife, Lori Shelton of Anamosa; four grandchildren, Chance, Tegan, Hannah and Bryce; as well as his brothers, Mike Shelton, California, Donald Shelton, Switzerland, Patty Sherman, California, Jerry Copland, Cedar Rapids, and Tori Ruffrage, Cedar Rapids; and two stepchildren. Larry spent his final days in Coralville at Lantern Park Nursing & Rehab Center. A celebration of life will be from 1 to 4 p.m. Sunday, April 19, at the National Motorcycle Museum in Anamosa. A memorial fund will be available at Mount Vernon Bank & Trust Co. for the Larry Shelton Memorial, 206 First St. SW, Mount Vernon, IA 52314.
