Dorothy "Dottie" Mae Rapps, 97, of Cedar Rapids, passed away on Sunday, Feb. 4, 2018, at Living Center West nursing home. Per Dottie's wishes, there will be no visitation or funeral. She will be buried at Garrison, Iowa, Cemetery at a later date. Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home is caring for Dottie and her family.
Dorothy Mae Newman was born on Feb. 10, 1920, the daughter of Delbert and Caroline (Schmitt) Newman. Dottie married Earl Spencer; they later divorced. She then married Dale Buttleman; they later divorced. Dottie was united in marriage to George H. Rapps on April 16, 1977; he later passed away. She worked at Collins Radio as a test tech. She enjoyed spending time with family and friends.
Dottie was preceded in death by her parents; husband, George; son, Duane "Spike" Buttleman; and two siblings, Margaret Myers and James Newman.
Left to cherish Dottie's memories are son, James (Jerry) Buttleman of Cedar Rapids; two grandchildren, Steve Buttleman and Sheryl Sargent; four great-grandchildren, Megan Coriell, Tyler Buttleman, Zach Sargent and Marie Kauffman; two great-great-grandchildren, Ivan Kauffman and Karly Kauffman; nephew, Randy Newman; and great-nephew, Josh Newman.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Cedar Valley Humane Society, 7411 Mount Vernon Rd. SE, Cedar Rapids, IA 52403, or to a humane society of your choice in Dottie's name. She loved her dogs dearly.
