Margaret Ann "Marge" Gough, 98, of Coralville, passed away peacefully on Thursday, Sept. 18, 2014, at Crestview Nursing and Rehab in West Branch. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Tuesday,

Marge was born July 29, 1916, in Independence, Iowa, the daughter of Martin and Agnes (Stewart) Weepie. She grew up in Independence, graduated from St. John's High School in 1932, and later went on to earn her nursing diploma from Mercy Hospital in 1946. On April 26, 1950, Marge married Leonard "Bud" Gough at St. John's Catholic Church in Independence.
For nearly 50 years, Marge worked as a RN in various roles. Immediately out of school, Marge became a member of the United States Army Nurse Corps. She continued her working career at Mercy Hospital in Iowa City as a supervisor in the operating room. Following Mercy, she worked for a number of years as a private-duty nurse throughout the Iowa City/Coralville communities and later went on to work for Dr. McLaughlin, Dr. Skaugstad and Dr. Kammermyer. Marge retired in 1993 at the age of 77.
Marge was very dedicated to her family and her work, but also enjoyed many hobbies and interests. She grew up on a golf course and loved to play golf. She also enjoyed playing cards (especially euchre with Bud), loved to dance, travel, enjoyed a wide circle of friends, and was an avid sports fan, especially when cheering for the Iowa Hawkeyes!
Marge was a longtime member of St. Mary's Catholic Church, a member of the Altar & Rosary Society, and she, along with her husband, Bud, were instrumental in starting Regina High School.
Survivors include her three daughters, Kathleen (Walt) Williams of Wilton, Jane (Don) Frantz of Coralville and Mary Frances Gough of Houston; a granddaughter, Jeanna (Geoff) Dankle of North Liberty; a niece and two nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, five brothers and two sisters.
The family would like to thank the staff at Crestview for the wonderful care provided to Marge over the past year.
Online condolences may be left for the family at www.lensingfuneral.com.
