James W. and Mary Ellen Hart of Sandusky, OH are announcing the engagement of their daughter, Mary Emma, to Joseph Ross Avila, the son of

Joseph and Sherrie Avila of Des Moines, IA.

The bride-elect is a graduate of Sandusky High School; the College of Charleston, where she earned her Bachelor of Arts degree; and the

University of Rochester, where she earned her Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree. She is

employed in the emergency department at St. Louis University Hospital.

Her fiance is a graduate of Washington High School; the University of Iowa, where he earned his Bachelor of Science and Masters in Public Health degrees; and KCUMB, where he earned his Doctorate of Osteopathy. He is an emergency medicine physician and assistant medical director employed at St. Mary's Hospital.

They will wed Jan. 14.
