Loretta Alice Wieser was born Jan. 9, 1916, in Calmar, Iowa, the daughter of Charles M. and Alice J. (Kroma) Miller. She attended schools in Dubuque, at Holy Ghost Catholic Elementary School and ICA Academy High School. She was united in marriage to John Cletus Miller on Oct. 25, 1941, at Holy Ghost Catholic Church in Dubuque.
They spent their lifetime farming in the Solon area. Loretta was the "farm wife," who took care of everything and everyone! Not only was she active in her church St. Mary's Catholic Church of Solon, where she taught CCD for first-graders for many years and was a member of the Altar & Rosary Society she also was a member of The Catholic Order of Foresters, American Legion Auxiliary and many bridge clubs over the years. She also was known for her baking angel food cakes, many pies and homemade noodles, and always by scratch! Never a box for Loretta! She was a bit meticulous about her yard to say the least, still out spraying and pulling weeds well into her 90s. Some might say she was a tad on the meticulous side, but she lived through much and always remembered where she came from.
She loved her family dearly and cherished the many friendships she had throughout her lifetime.
Her family includes her son and daughter-in-law, Richard and Judy Miller; three grandchildren, the Rev. Christopher Miller, Terry and his wife, Rhonda Miller, and Jodi and her husband, Adam Palmer; five great-grandchildren, Cole, Brooke and Autumn Miller and Kelsey and Landon Palmer; a sister and her husband, Dorothy and Neil Keith; and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews.
Loretta was preceded in death by her parents; husband, John; sisters, Mary Nolan and Irene Loanjers; brothers, Charles, Maurice, Wilfred, Francis, Milton and Melvin Wieser, Albert Miller and his wife, Mary, and Laurance Miller and his wife, Mary; and a brother-in-law, Earl Miller.
Gay & Ciha Funeral and Cremation Service is caring for Loretta's family and her services.
