Fulton, William J. 'Bill'
William J. "Bill" Fulton, 69, of 227 Holiday Lodge Rd. in North Liberty, died Sunday, Aug. 9, 2009, at Mercy Hospice Care in Iowa City.
Visitation will be held Wednesday, Aug. 19 from 4 to 8 p.m. at Lensing Funeral & Cremation Service in Iowa City. Funeral Services will be Thursday at 11 a.m. at the funeral home. Burial will be in Ridgewood Cemetery in North Liberty. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials to Iowa City Hospice.
Bill was born Nov. 26, 1939, in Iowa City, the son of Jesse and Laura (Kindl) Fulton.
He graduated from Iowa City High School in 1958 and attended the University of Iowa. While attending the
U of I, Bill played as a linebacker for the Iowa Hawkeyes for one year.
Bill then married Roxanne "Toni" Reed June 11, 1994 in North Liberty.
Bill drove for Carl Chadek Trucking from 1959 – 1965. He then worked for Iowa City Ready mix from 1965 – 1971 and in that same year, was co-owner of Fulton-Miller Concrete and Construction in Iowa City. In November 1982, Bill returned to work for Chadek Trucking.
He coached Iowa City Girls Softball for seven years and served as its president for seven years. He was a member of the Anamosa Archery Club and taught deer field dressing. Bill enjoyed boating, Hawkeye Football tailgating, creating stained glass pieces, shotgun hunting, muzzle loading and playing slow and fast pitch softball. He also managed the Nickelodeons softball team. Bill enjoyed snowmobiling and had made the 600 mile trip to the Upper Peninsula of Michigan.
He served in the Army National Guard in the 1970s. Bill enjoyed boating on the Mississippi River – where he logged over 2000 miles. He also enjoyed boating on the Coralville Reservoir, Mark Twain Lake and the Lake of the Ozarks.
Survivors include his wife Toni Reed of North Liberty, daughter, Dannie Fulton of Iowa City and Darcie Wolf of Chicago; stepson, Brandon Baines of North Liberty; brother, Ken (Marilyn) Fulton of Iowa City, sisters-in-law, Josephine Fulton and Jeanette Fulton, both of Iowa City, four grandchildren, Alex, Ike, Jake, Ursula and nieces and nephews.
Bill was preceded in death by his parents, a sister Betty Courtney and brothers Richard, Gene, Chuck and Keith.
