Welbourne, Scott
Scott Welbourne, 60, of Toddville, died Tuesday, Aug. 23, 2011, after twice defeating cancer. He lost a 4-year long battle to pulmonary fibrosis at St. Luke's Hospital, Cedar Rapids. Services: noon Saturday, Aug. 27, at Murdoch-Linwood Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Cedar Rapids, by Pastor Bill Harnish. Visitation: 4 to 8 p.m. Friday, Aug. 26, at the funeral home.
Survivors include his sons, Andy (Kristi) Welbourne of Cedar Rapids and Casey (Pamela) Welbourne of Tuscaloosa, Ala.; his parents; his sister, Susie (Jack) Lindstrom of Ely; grandchildren, Jacob Hasley, Tyler, Colton, Ellie and Abel Welbourne; several aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews; and countless friends Scott's life touched. He is also survived by his best friend, Roger Rollins; and all of his brothers and sisters from the Easter camp outs.
Scott was born to Doug and Maxine (Bruce) Welbourne on Dec. 30, 1950, in Cedar Rapids, Iowa.
He was preceded in death by paternal grandparents, Howard and Anna Welbourne and Guy and Gladys Bruce.
He graduated from Jefferson High School in 1969 and attended the University of Iowa. Later he enlisted in the United States Air Force, serving his country eight years during Vietnam. Scott was married to Rosemary Kindl on April 1, 1991, until her untimely death on July 15, 2000.
He retired from PMX Industires in 2008 and previously worked at Norand Corporation. A very gifted golfer and fisherman, Scott loved the outdoors. Whether it was on the golf course, at the campground, or on the water, Scott loved nature. In his own words … “Life is so great - people, music, spiritual, sports, hard work.”
A reception will be hosted by the family immediately following the services at Scott's home.
