Letter: Don’t forget anti-Obama protests

Tim Dohrmann in his Feb. 26 letter ('Give President Trump a chance to heal nation”) argues that he never wrote letters about Barack Obama or protested that president, so the left should give Trump a similar chance.

How quickly we forget protests with Obama effigies burning in nooses. How quickly we forget the cavalier calls for his assassination; racial epithets scrawled across houses and cars and violent attacks against minorities; crosses burning in yards or the house of an Obama supporter burning in Forsyth County, Georgia with 'Your black boy will die” painted on her fence.

How quickly we forget the protests denying Obama's citizenship and calling for him to be deported, crowds carrying signs with unprintable racial epithets.

This notion that conservative America willingly accepts election results is undermined by footage of Tea Party militias stockpiling weapons before our last election. If you think the response to Trump is bad, do you believe the right would have peacefully given Hillary Clinton a chance?

Trump called for protests in 2012 because he mistakenly believed that Obama lost the popular election. Here is a Trump tweet from Nov. 7 of that year: 'He lost the popular vote by a lot and won the election. We should have a revolution!” You can't have it both ways and call for a revolution after one election then say to calm down when you're in power. Trump tweeted on Nov. 6, 2012: 'We can't let this happen. We should march on Washington and stop this travesty.” Indeed, we should.
