Crawford, Evia O. Polhamus
Evia O. Polhamus Crawford, 73, of Marion, formerly of Mechanicsville and Lisbon, died Friday Dec. 18, 2009, at St. Luke's Hospital, Cedar Rapids, from pancreatic cancer. Evia's funeral will be 3 p.m. today at Morgan Funeral and Cremation Choices, Mount Vernon Chapel. The family will greet friends from 2 p.m. until service time at the chapel. Internment at Rose Hill Cemetery, Mechanicsville.
Evia is survived by her son, Matthew and wife Lorraine Polhamus of Mechanicsville; six grandchildren, Adam (Heather) Bauer of Dubuque, Ryan Steinberg (fiancé, Chelsey Havill), Joel Polhamus (significant other, Heather Palmer) both of Mechanicsville, Justin Polhamus of Wayne, Neb., Paige (Paul) Keating of Monkstown, Ireland, and Blair (Derek) Meeks of Des Moines; three great-grandsons, Robbie, Randy, and Ricky Bauer. She is also survived by brothers, Homer (Millie) Crawford, Nolen (Peggy) Crawford, both of Rockford, Ill., and Dale (Elaine) Crawford, Texas.
Preceding Evia in death were three sisters, Mona, Marcella “Marcie”, and Lois; one brother, Maeford “Mac”; one granddaughter, Marrissa Polhamus; her parents, James and Callie Purdue Crawford; and her favorite squirrel, Sicky.
Evia was born July 12, 1936, in Bragg City, Mo. She was formerly married to Kermit Polhamus. She retired from Wilson Foods upon its closing and was a member of Food Workers Union Local P3. She owned the South Side Tap in Lisbon and the Cedar Valley Inn, for ten years in Cedar Valley.
Evia's life was her family, food, fishing, and animal watching. Evia will always be remembered for her generosity and love of her family.
