Cynthia Harlan Loomis, 83, formerly of Beaver Dam, Wis., died Friday, Dec. 18, 2015, at Garden View Senior Community, Monona. She was born to Marion S. and Charlotte Elizabeth (Taft) Harlan on Sept. 20, 1932. Her family home was on Grosse Ile, Mich. Cynthia graduated from Northwestern University with degrees in anthropology and political science. She later obtained degrees in broadcasting and accounting.
Cynthia was the woman's programming director at WWTV in Cadillac, Mich., hosting "Party Line," a women's television program. Cynthia was united in marriage with Dennis William Loomis and had one child, Anne. She was a dedicated and creative homemaker for her family. Cynthia returned to work in the accounting department at First National Bank in Beaver Dam, Wis., retiring in 1992.
Cynthia was an officer in community organizations, AAUW, Beaver Coin Club, United Fund and Beaver Dam Nursery. She was a proud Mayflower descendent and enjoyed crafting, rock collecting, musical theater and summer visits to Higgins Lake. In 1970, she traveled around the world, to countries in Africa, Asia and Europe. She was a dedicated environmentalist.
Cynthia is survived by her daughter, Anne (Jerry) Kruse of McGregor; three stepchildren, Cindy (Don) Schuster of Tustin, Mich., Steven (Barbra) Loomis of Phoenix, Ariz., and Kent (Fawn) Loomis of Beaver Dam, Wis.; one granddaughter, Vanessa A. Frank of Cedar Rapids; one brother, M. Scribner (Mary) Harlan of Warren, Mich.; and several stepgrandchildren, nieces and nephews.
Cynthia was preceded in death by her husband, her parents and her sister, Mary Mize.
Memorials may be directed to the Southern Poverty Law Center and International Dark Sky Association.
Cynthia's family would like to thank all the caring staff at Garden View Senior Community in Monona and St. Croix Hospice.
