Higgins, Dorothy M.
Dorothy M. Higgins, 85, of the Woodland at the Meth-Wick Community died Sunday, July 11, 2010, at her home after a brief illness. Memorial services at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday at First Congregational Church. The Rev. David Hohmann will officiate. Inurnment at Cedar Memorial Park Mausoleum Columbarium. Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Survivors include a son, Grant; a brother-in-law, Harold Higgins, both of Cedar Rapids; as well as two nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband.
Dorothy was born on Sept. 13, 1924, in Wauwatosa, Wis., the daughter of Ogden and Emma Shoonmaker. She married John F. Higgins on Sept. 13, 1952, at the Little Brown Church in Nashua. He died in 2001. Dorothy was a registered nurse and worked at Quaker Oats for 30 years, retiring in 1988. She was a member of the First Congregational Church, the American Nurses Association, Eastern Star and past president of the Cedar Rapids Miniature Club. Dorothy was a volunteer for the American Red Cross and the Boy Scouts. She enjoyed gardening and the time she spent with her friends and beloved family.
Memorial donations may be given to First Congregational Church or the American Red Cross in Dorothy's name.
