Higgins, Maxine Merle

Maxine Merle Higgins, 90, of Vinton, died Tuesday, April 19, 2011, at the Vinton Lutheran Home. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, April 22, at the Vinton Presbyterian Church with the Rev. David Gates officiating. Visitation will be held from 9 to 11 a.m. Friday at the church. Interment will be in Garrison Cemetery, Garrison, Iowa.

Maxine was born Dec. 18, 1920, in Dysart, Iowa, the daughter of Frank and Ella Kersten Sutton. She married Richard William Higgins on August 17, 1940, in Garrison. He preceded her in death on Nov. 21, 2004.

Maxine is survived by three sons, Roger (Donna) Higgins of Mount Auburn, Dennis (Roxanne) Higgins and Morris (Ida) Higgins, both of Vinton; 10 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; one sister, Lucille Higgins of Janesville, Wis.; and two brothers, Marvin (Norma) Sutton of Marion, and Dale (Donna) Sutton of Vinton.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; one grandson, Bradley Higgins; one brother; and one sister, both in infancy.

A memorial fund has been established.
