New employees
Dick Machacek (see photo) joined GSTC Transportation Services in Walford as director, responsible for the company's brokerage services division. Machacek most recently was with CRST Logistics and RFK Transportation.
Mark Osborne (see photo) joined Freedom Security Bank in Coralville as vice president-mortgage lending manager. Osborne worked most recently for Booz Allen Hamilton in South Carolina.
Bob Moore (see photo) joined PoolTech Midwest in Cedar Rapids as chief accounting officer.
Promotions
The Cedar Rapids Fire Department promoted Roy J. Becker Jr. (see photo) to fire captain-operations (shift). Becker had been shift firefighter.
Shannon Foote (see photo) was promoted to client services manager at ME&V. Foote has been with ME&V since 2010.
Charlie Rockford was promoted to vice president of PoolTech Midwest in Cedar Rapids. Rockford was previously commercial sales manager.
Appointed as assistant vice presidents at United Fire & Casualty Co. were Lawrence Crawford (see photo), Michael (Mike) Hart (see photo) and Debra (Debbie) Johnstone.
Board Members
Jack B. Evans, president, Hall-Perrine Foundation, Cedar Rapids was elected to United Fire Group's board of directors.
Todd Kerska (see photo) was named treasurer of the board of directors for the Wheelchair Ramp Accessibility Program. Kerska is the senior vice president and chief financial officer for Guaranty Bank & Trust.
Patrick Sauter (see photo) with King's Material in Cedar Rapids was elected to the National Concrete Masonry Association board of directors.
Tim Peters (see photo), department supervisor with Iowa Title Co. in Linn County, was elected president of the Iowa Land Title Association.
Seminars
Intern Intel, hosted by Iowa Cultural Corridor Alliance partners, will be held from 4 to 6 p.m., June 6, in the Flaherty Community Room at Mount Mercy University, 1330 Elmhurst Dr. NE, Cedar Rapids. A panel will provide information on how to create an internship program. This event is free to ICCA partners and $15 for non-ICCA partners. Liz Hoskins, Waypoint Services for Women and Children director, will be the keynote speaker when the Hawkeye chapter of the American Society of Training and Development will host a training day for not-for-profit organizations on Wednesday at Mount Mercy University, Cedar Rapids.
