Armstrong, Paul D.
Paul D. Armstrong, 55, of Mount Vernon, died Monday, Jan. 11, 2010, at St. Luke's Hospital, Cedar Rapids. Friends may join in a celebration of his life at Horseshoe Falls Lodge at Pinicon Ridge, Central City, from 1 to 5 p.m. Saturday. A private inurnment will be held at a later date.
Paul was born April 9, 1954, in Cedar Rapids. After graduating from high school, he joined the Marines during the Vietnam War and was honorably discharged. He married Cynthia Chamberlain in 1978, and became a carpenter by trade and a devoted stay at home dad and husband. Paul had a distinguished taste and enjoyment of movies and music, loved the outdoors and was an avid sports and Brett Favre fan. He was very dedicated to his family and never met a stranger. He will be dearly missed by many.
He is survived by his wife, Cynthia; children, Nichole (Zachary) Martin of Cedar Rapids, Sean Armstrong of Lisbon, and Troy and Rachel Armstrong, both of Mount Vernon; mother, Donna Smith; sister, Pam (Tom) Johnston of Solon; grandchildren, Anthony, Adrian and Mariah; and many nieces and nephews.
Paul was preceded in death by his stepfather, Chet Smith.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established at Alliant Credit Union Cedar Rapids to dedicate a tree and bench in his memory.
