George Henry Nielsen, 86, of Central City, was called home Saturday, July 23, 2016, at Monticello Nursing Home, Monticello. Visitation: 4 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, July 26, at Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Central City. Funeral services: 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, July 27, at Jordan's Grove Baptist Church, conducted by the Rev. Steve Russell. The family also will greet friends one hour before the service at the church on Wednesday. Burial: Jordan's Grove Cemetery, rural Central City.
George was born April 4, 1930, in Linn County, the son of Marten and Mary Ione (Goodlove) Nielsen. He married Wanda Thordsen on Jan. 22, 1950. They later divorced. George worked for Transport America for many years and had a produce business in Central City. He was a member of Jordan's Grove Baptist Church and was involved with working the election polls.
George is survived by his children, Richard (Barbara) Nielsen, Randall Nielsen, Karleen (Carl) Gray and Phil (Lora) Nielsen; 11 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren, with one on the way; brother, Ray (Frances) Nielsen; and three nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents and son, Al.
