Reed, Robert L.
Robert L. Reed, 90, of San Francisco, Calif., passed away peacefully Wednesday, March 16, 2011, at Mercy Iowa City. Funeral services to celebrate Bob's life will be at 1 p.m. Saturday, March 19, at Lensing Funeral Service in Iowa City. A gathering of family and friends will follow the service at The Kirkwood Room (building west of Lensing Funeral Home). Private burial will be in Sumner.
Bob is survived by his wife, Minerva; his four children, Amy (Reed) Sparby, Dan (Lois) Reed, Laura (Al) Reed and Mark (Karen) Reed; a sister, Shirley (Frank) MacCormick; a brother, John Reed; a son-in-law, Rudy Frey; 11 grandchildren and a great-grandchild.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Beth; his parents, Ray and Irene; and a daughter, Kitty.
Bob lived an incredible life, full of curiosity, wonder, and always a sense of adventure. His many years in San Francisco with his wife Minerva were some of the happiest in his life. He explored the jungles of Uganda to sit with the gorillas to spending time with the natives in the jungle of Melanesia. There was never an adventure he would not relish. A man of great passion, intelligence and curiosity, he enriched all of our lives.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the Robert Reed Fund.
