Sherri Scinta Fiala, 70, died Thursday, Oct. 1, 2015, at Iowa Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines. The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 7, at Iles Westover Chapel in Windsor Heights. A
graveside service will be 2:30 p.m. Thursday at Mount Hope Cemetery in Maquoketa.
Sherri was born Oct. 13, 1944, in Muroc, Calif., to Russell and Gladys (Glahn) Scinta. She was a graduate of Maquoketa High School and the University of Iowa. She retired as a manager for a Fortune 500 company. Sherri was an avid reader and enjoyed quilting, gardening, floral arranging and decorating beautifully for holidays.
Survivors include her son, John Fiala of Marion; grandchildren, Gabrielle and Tyler Fiala; sisters, Stephanie Scinta of Des Moines and Pat (John) Smith of Cedar Rapids; niece, Ann (Lou) Hankel of Pleasant Hill and great-nephew, Ryan; nephew, Jamie (Callie) Smith of Monticello and great-nephews, Tate and Sutton; and many cousins and dear friends.
Sherri was preceded in death by her parents.
Memorial contributions may be made to the American Lung Association or Komen Cancer Center or charity of choice.
