Manley, Verla I.
Verla I. Manley, 86, of Cedar Rapids, died Jan. 21, 2011, in her home, with her family, following an extended illness. Memorial services will be held 1 p.m. Monday, Jan. 24, at Cedar Memorial Park Chapel of Memories, where friends may call after 12:30 p.m. Monday. The Rev. Carroll Brown will officiate. Inurnment will take place at Cedar Memorial Park Chapel of Memories Mausoleum.
Survivors include her husband of 67 years, Maynard; daughter, Boni Nemecek and husband Bruce of Cedar Rapids, and their children, Tina Nemecek of Colorado and Tory Nemecek of Cedar Rapids; daughter, Peggy Schultz of Cedar Rapids, and her children, Angelica Schultz of Cedar Rapids and Trent Schultz and Drew Schultz, both of Cedar Falls; grandson, B.J. Taylor and wife Jenny of Center Point; and great-grandchildren, Anna, Raider, Pepper, Connor and Sydney.
She was preceded in death by her parents; and her daughter, Judy Taylor and husband Mike.
Verla Irene Manley was born April 18, 1924, in Farmington, Iowa, the daughter of Julian and Weltha (Gibson) Roth. She was united in marriage to Maynard L. Manley on Oct. 23, 1943, in Memphis, Mo. She was employed for over 26 years as an inspector at Rockwell Collins.
She enjoyed all types of craft activities as well as sharing her talents with others. Her favorite was crocheting hand made hats for infants in hospitals and afghans for several nursing homes.
She will be remembered by her family for her wonderful cooking and gracious hospitality. Above all her greatest enjoyment was her time spent with her family.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established in Verla's honor.
