Coonrod, Donald Robert 'Coony' 'Peanut Butter'
Donald Robert Coonrod, “Coony,” “Peanut Butter,” 66, of Springville, died Sunday, Sept. 26, 2010, at St. Luke's Hospital, Cedar Rapids. Funeral service: 11 a.m. Thursday at Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Center, Marion, by Pastor Jack Ray. Family will greet friends from 3 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. Burial: Springville Cemetery, Springville.
Survivors include his wife, Barbara; two children, Donald R. (Shelley) Coonrod and Michael J. Coonrod, all of Springville; grandson, Drake Donald Coonrod; close friend, Steve Brown of Springville; siblings, Marlys Tritle of Minnesota, and Larry (Betty) Coonrod of Branson, Mo.; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Ivan Coonrod and M. Evelyn Hepker; stepfather, Forest E. Hepker; and brother, Chuck Hepker.
Don was born August 2, 1944, in Toddville, the son of Ivan and M. Evelyn (Rosekrans) Coonrod. He graduated from Springville High School. On June 2, 1963, Don was united in marriage with Barbara Soukup at the Springville Methodist Church. Don farmed all his life and worked 36 years as a road supervisor for Linn County Roads Department.
Don's life was about farming and family. He loved music and dancing. Don did a lot of tractor pulling and loved old tractors and old steam engines. He enjoyed reminiscing. Don had a wonderful sense of humor and loved to joke around.
