Maiers, Gerald 'Jake'
Gerald “Jake” Maiers, 80, of Marion, died Tuesday, Nov. 1, 2011, surrounded by his family. Services: 11 a.m. Friday at Cedar Memorial Park Chapel of Memories, Cedar Rapids, by the Rev. David Beckman. Visitation will be on Thursday at Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home, Cedar Rapids, from 4 until 8 p.m., and on Friday at the chapel after 10 a.m. Burial: Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery, Cedar Rapids.
Survivors include his wife, Norma J. Maiers; his children, Dr. Alan J. (Terry) Maiers of San Antonio, Texas, Audrey A. Maiers of Dyersville, Mark (Tina) Maiers of Maxwell, Wayne J. (Denise) Maiers of Chantilly, Va., Sherry (Greg) Brown of Mitchellville, Paul G. (Becky) Maiers of Fairfield, Kevin C. Maiers of Cedar Rapids, Ann M. Maiers of Mount Xavier, Mont., and Joyce (Jim) Ferguson of Marion; his siblings, Merle (Verna) Maiers of Madison, Wis., John Maiers of Peosta, Eldora Pins of Manchester, Vern (Ray) Lucus of Cedar Rapids, Julie Ungs of Luxemburg, and Pat Elliott of Madison, Wis.; a sister-in-law, Grace Maiers of Manchester; 19 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Ralph and Jerome Maiers; brothers-in-law, Ed Ungs, Schim Elliott, Matt Pfeiler and Paul Pins; and sisters-in-law, Bennie Maiers and Fran Maiers.
Jake was born June 28, 1931, in Dyersville, Iowa, the son of Mathias and Bertha (Oberbroeckling) Maiers. He was raised in the Holy Cross area on the family farm. He was united in marriage to his best friend and love, Norma (Bierl), on Sept. 1, 1952. Together they raised nine amazing children.
Jake loved being surrounded by his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. They were very important to him.
He was a Realtor for Century 21/ReMax Realtors and was a member of the Knights of Columbus. Jake was an avid Chicago Cubs and San Antonio Spurs fan. He enjoyed gardening, fishing, reading and crossword search puzzles.
Jake will be greatly missed by his family and friends.
