Charipar, The Rev. Henry 'Hank' W.
The Rev. Henry “Hank” W. Charipar, 69, of Dubuque, formerly of Cedar Rapids, died Friday, Oct. 14, 2011, at Mercy Medical Center in Dubuque. Mass of Christian Burial: 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 19, at St. Ludmila Catholic Church, by the Most Rev. Jerome Hanus OSB, Archbishop of Dubuque and the Very Rev. Bernard C. Grady. Visitation will be at St. Ludmila's from 4 to 7 p.m. Tuesday and after 9:30 a.m. Wednesday. Burial: Blain Cemetery, Swisher. Arrangements entrusted to Murdoch-Linwood Funeral Home & Cremation Service in Cedar Rapids.
Survivors include two brothers, Gerald (Mary) Charipar of Rochester, N.Y., and their children, Christine and Sarah, and Karl (Connie) Charipar of Minneapolis, and their children, Daniel and Paul (Amy); two sisters, Jo Brown of Minneapolis and Charlene Stellamaris of Clear Lake, Wis., and her children, Abagail (Conor) Sabatino and Matthew (Angela) Radintz; four grandnieces; three grandnephews; and many cousins.
He was preceded in death by his parents, and two brothers-in-law, Wallace Brown and Raymond Radintz.
Father Hank was born Jan. 23, 1942, the son of Henry W. and Bessie M. (Bohac) Charipar Sr. in Cedar Rapids. He graduated from Regis High School in 1960 and Loras College in 1964 where he earned his B.A. in philosophy. He studied theology and graduated from M.S. Bernard.
Father Hank was ordained June 1, 1968, at the Cathedral in Dubuque by the Most Rev. J.J. Bryne, STD. Father Hank was the assistant pastor at St. Mary's in Dubuque from 1968-1972; at Ossian from 1972-1976; at Cresco, Assumption and Notre Dame High Schools from 1976-1982; at Dubuque, Nativity from 1982-1986. He was pastor at Dorchester, Hanover and New Albin from 1987-2000, and at Cresco and Bluffton from 2000-2005. Father Hank retired to Dubuque in 2005.
Father Hank was a huge Chicago Cubs fan and enjoyed collecting Cubs memorabilia and brass figurines. He loved to go to the casino and play draw poker.
In lieu of flowers, the family request memorials be made in memory of Father Hank to the Stonehill Care Center, 3485 Winsor Ave., Dubuque, IA 52001.
