Brecht, Cletus J.
Cletus J. Brecht, 82, of Central City, died Wednesday, Oct. 3, 2012. Funeral Mass: 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 6, at St. Stephens Catholic Church, Central City, by Father Wayne Droessler. The family will greet friends from 3:30 to 8 p.m.Friday at the church, with a Scripture service beginning at 3:30 p.m. Burial: Mount Clark Cemetery, Central City.
Survivors include his wife of 62 years, Beverly; children, Doug (Shirley) Brecht of Marion, Steve (Cheryl) Brecht of Center Point, Phil (Judy) Brecht of Central City, Pete (Diane) Brecht of Central City and Laurie Bennett of Mooresville, N.C.; eight grandchildren, Taunia Bradley, Stephanie Cole, Dan Brecht, Sarah Holub, Stacey Neighbor, Josh Brecht, Justin Brecht and Jennifer Burr; and 21 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; grandson, Nick Brecht; and sister, Rosalene Wears.
Cletus was born April 23, 1930, in Norway, Iowa, the son of Lawrence and Mary (Becker) Brecht. He married Beverly Simmons on Oct. 2, 1950, in Marengo, Iowa. Cletus was a lifelong farmer and did custom corn shelling for 30 years.
He liked playing cards, fishing, going to the Co-op, and having coffee with the boys. Cletus was a member of St. Stephens Catholic Church, Central City, and had served on the board of directors for the Farmers Co-op of Central City and Brown Township Insurance.
