Charlene Marcella Schneider, 66, of Cedar Rapids, died Sunday, Dec. 2, 2018, at home in her sleep after surgery. Services: 1 p.m. Saturday, at Teahen Funeral Home by the Rev. Kenneth Glasner. Burial: St. John Cemetery. Friends may visit with the family Friday from 5 to 7 p.m. at Teahen Funeral Home, and on Saturday after noon. A reception will follow the burial service at the VFW Post 788 Hall.
Charlene is survived by her brothers, George of Hot Springs, Ark., and Tom (Nancy) of Austin, Texas; her nieces and nephews, Natalie, Max, Derek and Laura; and many other aunts, cousins and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; and her longtime companion, Richard Erb.
Charlene was born on May 30, 1952, in Cedar Rapids, daughter of Charles and Sieverna Schaefer Schneider. She graduated from LaSalle High School in 1970 and attended Iowa State University in Ames. She had been a Veterans and Family Support agent for the VFW Post 788, and a national council member.
Charlene gave her heart and soul to the VFW Auxiliary, recently attending its national convention in Kansas City, Mo. In 2017, she was elected president of the VFW Auxiliary for the state of Iowa and before that served as local chapter president for four years. Charlene enjoyed laughing, being around people and traveling. She kept close track of family members and always attended family reunions. Charlene will be missed by all who knew and loved her.
