Silvers, Arvid 'Bruce'
Arvid “Bruce” Silvers, 61, of Cedar Rapids, joined the Lord on Tuesday, Nov. 29, 2011, at St. Luke's Hospital following a very brief illness. Services are being held at Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home on Saturday, Dec. 3, at 2:30 p.m., with visitation starting at 1 p.m. at the funeral home.
Bruce was born Jan. 22, 1950, in Denver, Colo., the son of LaCleda (Cook) and Eldon Silvers Sr. Bruce spent most of his school years living in Georgetown, Colo., before moving to Iowa in the 1960s. He graduated from high school in Vinton in 1970. Bruce married the love of his life, Helen (Walters), in 1975. Together they had one son who was the light of their world.
Bruce loved working on cars and spending time with his family. Bruce was the type of person who would take the shirt off his back if someone needed it. He enjoyed watching drag races and going to car shows to see old cars. Bruce was also a dog lover who owned three dogs and took very good care of them. Bruce took pride in working hard and supporting his family. He most recently worked at AutoZone on Blairs Ferry Road for many years.
Bruce spent lots of time with his son Josh, who was his best friend, and Bruce loved him so dearly.
Bruce is survived by one son, Joshua Silvers of Cedar Rapids; one granddaughter, Carmen Wolfe (Francine Silvers) of Cedar Rapids; two brothers, Eldon Jr. of Anamosa and Arnold of Morning Sun; mother-in-law, Viola Walters of Cedar Rapids; two brothers-in-law, Robert (Melanie) and Darrell Walters; and many nieces, nephews and friends.
Bruce was preceded in death by the love of his life, Helen, his wife of 36 years; both parents; his father-in-law; and one nephew.
