Scherrman, William P.
William P. Scherrman, 90, of Dyersville, died Wednesday, July 14, 2010, at Oak Crest Manor, Dyersville. Friends may call from 1 to 7 p.m. Sunday, July 18, at Kramer Funeral Home in Dyersville, where American Legion Post 137 will gather at 4 p.m. Friends may also call from 7 to 10 a.m. Monday at the funeral home. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday at St. Francis Xavier Basilica, Dyersville, with burial in the church cemetery.
Bill was born Feb. 24, 1920, in Farley, Iowa, the son of Frank X. and Philomena (Kelly) Scherrman. He married Dula M. Willenborg on Oct. 9, 1937, at St. John's Catholic Church, Independence. She preceded him in death in 2009. They were married 72 years. Bill served in the U.S. Army during World War II from 1942 to 1944. Bill owned and operated Scherrman Implement & Appliance for over 70 years.
He was a member of American Legion Post 137, K of C Council 1734, Mercy Hospital board, the Residential Care Review Board at Oak Crest, St. Francis Cemetery Association and a past president of the Dyersville Commercial Club. Bill was an active member of AA for 29 years and proud of his accomplishments and affiliation.
Survivors include five children, Pat (Betty Anne), Don (Cookie) and Joe (Shari), all of Dyersville, Scott (Sharon) of Petaluma, Calif., and Bonnie Hunt of Menlo Park, Calif.; Bill Lukan (family friend) of New York, 18 grandchildren, Meg (Paul) Cook, Beth (Brian) Berk, MaryPat (Tom) Stoddard, Jayne Scherrman, Sally Scherrman (friend Russ Draful), Molly (Jerry) Evers, Francis Xavier (Theresa) Scherrman, Todd (Lori) Scherrman, Cathy (Jim) Gibbs, Jackie Scherrman, Sandra (Julio) Umana, Susan (Eric) Martin, Issac (Lisa) Hunt, Rebecca (Eric) Balebako, Matt (Jenny) Scherrman, Katie Scherrman (friend Cris), Tony (Josie) Scherrman and Corey (Ali) Scherrman, 33 great-grandchildren; a brother, Emmett (Ann) Scherrman of Cedar Rapids; and brothers- and sister-in-law, Elmer Willenborg of Kansas City, Iven Weber of Dubuque and Kay Scherrman of Cedar Falls.
He was preceded in death by his parents; an infant daughter, Beth; a brother, Jim Scherrman; a sister, Mary (George) Benedict; his parents-in-law, Ben and Molly Willenborg; brothers-in-law, Roger, Paul, John and Carl Willenborg, who were killed in World War II; and a sister-in-law, Dell Rose Mangerich.

Memorials are preferred to St. Francis Xavier Basilica.
