Scherrman, Dula M.
Dula M. Scherrman, 93, of Dyersville, died Thursday, Oct. 29, 2009, at Oak Crest Manor. Friends may call from 1 to 7 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 1, at Kramer Funeral Home in Dyersville. Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Monday at St. Francis Xavier Basilica, Dyersville, with burial in the church cemetery. Officiating will be the Rev. Phil Kruse.
Dula was born Sept. 2, 1916, in Adrian, Minn., the daughter of Ben and Molly (Gerken) Willenborg. She married William Scherrman on Oct. 9, 1937, at St. John's Catholic Church, Independence. They were married 72 years.
Throughout her life Dula enjoyed reading, oil painting, fishing, going on picnics, cooking, foster parenting, and especially loved spending time with her family. She was a member of the Dyersville Historical Society, Federated Woman's Club, CD of A, Rosary Society, Alanon and St. Francis Xavier Parish.
Survivors include her husband, Bill; five children, Pat (Betty Anne), Don (Cookie) and Joe (Shari), all of Dyersville, Scott (Sharon) of Petaluma, Calif., and Barb Hunt of Menlo Park, Calif., and Bill Lukan (family friend) of New York; 18 grandchildren, Meg (Paul) Cook, Beth (Brian) Berk, MaryPat (Tom) Stoddard, Jayne Scherrman, Sally Scherrman (friend Russ), Molly (Jerry) Evers, Francis Xavier (Theresa) Scherrman, Todd (Lori) Scherrman, Cathy (Jim) Gibbs, Jackie Scherrman, Sandra Scherrman (friend Julio), Susan (Eric) Martin, Issac (Lisa) Hunt, Rebecca Hunt (friend Eric), Matt (Jenny) Scherrman, Katie Scherrman (friend Cris), Tony (Josie) Scherrman and Corey (Ali) Scherrman; 33 great-grandchildren; one brother, Elmer Willenborg of Kansas City; one sister, Iven Weber of Dubuque; brother-in-law, Emmett (Ann) Scherrman; and sister-in-law, Kay Scherrman.
She was preceded in death by her parents; an infant daughter, Beth; four brothers, Roger, Paul, John and Carl Willenborg, who was killed in World War II; one sister, Dell Rose and her husband, Walter Mangerich; and sisters- and brothers-in-law, Martha Willenborg, Les Weber, Jim Scherrman and George and Mary Benedict.
Special thanks to the staff at Ellen Kennedy Living Center, Oak Crest Manor and Hospice of Dubuque for their compassionate, loving care they gave Dula.
In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to St. Francis Xavier Basilica.
