Janss, Janet Marie

Janet Marie (De La Hunt) Janss, 90, of 2671 Roosevelt St., Alburnett, died Sunday, Jan. 31, 2010, at St. Luke's Hospital, Cedar Rapids. Services: 1 p.m., Friday at Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Center, Marion, by Rev. H. Burr Bryant. The family will greet friends from 4 to 7 p.m., Thursday at the funeral home. Private Family Burial: Shilo Cemetery, Hiawatha.

Survivors include her children: Kristine (Fredrick, Sr.) Purdy of Alburnett, Kathlene Bilsland of Cedar Rapids, Joel L. (Cheryl) Janss of Cedar Rapids; a daughter-in-law, Jacque Janss of Maryland; 15 grandchildren; many great-grandchildren; one great-great granddaughter; two nephews; and many, many friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents; a son, Douglas H. Janss; a brother, Neil De La Hunt; and a foster sister, Leah Witkin.

Janet was born Sept. 14, 1919, the daughter of Harold A. and Edna A. (Ewing) De La Hunt, in Cedar Rapids. She graduated from Roosevelt High School in 1937, and later graduated from the Cedar Rapids School of Business. Janet married Harold L. Janss, and they later divorced. She served as Postmaster in Alburnett for many years and was a member of Alburnett United Methodist Church and NARFE.

We greatly loved and will miss our “Grandma Grandma!”
