Glenn Gaydon Kloos was born July 18, 1933, in Iowa City, the son of Harry and Essie (Johnson) Kloos. He graduated from Franklin High School in Cedar Rapids and served with the U.S. Army during the Korean War. On July 22, 1954, he was united in marriage to Alberta M. Yeggy at St. Patrick Catholic Church in Iowa City. Glenn had a long and enjoyable career with Quaker Oats, retiring after 43 years as the head miller in the corn mill department.
In retirement, he and Alberta moved to Bella Vista, Ark., where they resided for the next eight years before moving back to Iowa to live in Iowa City in 2004. During his 20-plus years in retirement, Glenn never missed the annual reunion of the Century Club of the former employees of Quaker Oats.
He was an active part of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Hills and also had worked as a crossing guard for the school district for the past eight years. His family was the center of his life, but he also enjoyed time golfing, working on his flower gardens and traveling the country. He was a certified instructor of low impact water aerobics at Mercer Pool. He had been a longtime member of Knights of Columbus both in this area and also while living in Bella Vista.
His loving family includes his loving wife, Alberta; loving children, Philip Kloos (Laurie) of Atlanta, Ga., Ron Kloos (Diana) of Belle Plaine, Scott Kloos (Kim) of Omaha, Neb., and Gwen Stanek (Dan) of Springville; grandchildren, Alen Kloos (Sandy), Adam Kloos (fiance, Lisa), Heather Miller (Ryan), Jessi Ballard, Kenny Kloos (Christina Frimm), Bryan Allnutt (Melinda), Michelle Robbins (Adam), Lauren Kloos, Benjamin Kloos (Angie), Jill Lawniczak (Ryan) and Nicole Offerman (James); 27 great-grandchildren; and Glenn's siblings, Bonnie Mitchell, Don Kloos (Pauline), Art Kloos (Karen) and Wayne Kloos.
