Is Shonn Greene the No. 3 RB in the draft?
Mike Hlas Apr. 21, 2009 11:24 am
Ahead of UC0nn's Donald Brown. Ahead of Pittsburgh's LeSean McCoy.
Ahead of everyone but Georgia's Knowshon Moreno and Ohio State's Beanie Wells.
That's where the National Football Post, a terrific serious NFL Web site, ranks Iowa's Shonn Greene at running back entering Saturday's NFL draft.
I give the Post propers for two biased reasons. One, ex-Iowa defensive back Matt Bowen is a writer for the site and has been a willing interview subject of mine.
Two, I called Post co-founder Jack Bechta Monday to get one of his clients' phone numbers. You're lucky if you can get an agent on the phone most of the time. Bechta answered, gave me the number I wanted without hesitation, and wished me good luck on the story.
See, you help the Hlog, and the Hlog happily gives you a plug.
Anyway, we've seen Greene listed below Brown and McCoy on many mock-draft lists the last couple months and still do. Now, Bechta has represented several former Hawkeyes over the years, including Tim Dwight and Eric Steinbach (and Bowen) of past teams, and Rob Bruggeman, Andy Brodell and Seth Olsen off the 2008 Hawks. So he and the Post may tilt an inch or two toward Iowa.
However, the Post also wants to be taken seriously nationally, so these rankings (seen here in their entirety) can't be too Iowa-slanted.
That said, the Post says
RB - Greene No. 3
Center - Bruggeman No. 9
Guard - Olsen No. 10
Defensive Tackle - Mitch King No. 8
Cornerback - Bradley Fletcher No. 16
