FLOYD "FRITZ" BOLGREN Calmar Floyd "Fritz" Louis Bolgren, 89, of Raleigh, N.C., passed away Monday, Nov. 23, 2015. Fritz was born in Washington Township within Winneshiek County, Iowa, on Sept. 17, 1926, to Archie Bolgren and Francis Overholt. He was raised in Calmar, Iowa. Fritz served 23 months in the U.S. Navy, which included time in the Pacific. After his time in the military, Fritz married the love of his life, Dolores Hauber, on Oct. 3, 1949, at St. Benedict's Catholic Church in Decorah. Fritz was a meat cutter for 23 years in Calmar, and then obtained a teaching degree, which allowed him to finish his career as an instructor of construction technology at Northeast Iowa Technical Institute from 1969 to 1988. Fritz continued his love for woodworking and making furniture for his family during retirement both in Iowa, then Florida, and ultimately North Carolina. He also served as a volunteer fireman for the Calmar Fire Department and was a lifetime member of the American Legion. Fritz is survived by his wife of 66 years, Dolores (Hauber) Bolgren; his five children, Ken (Linda) Bolgren, Altoona, Wis., Dan (Charlene) Bolgren, Dubuque, Jerry (Jeannie) Bolgren, Loudon, Tenn., Dave (Debbie) Bolgren, White Bear Lake, Minn., and Mary (Brent) Stubbe, Raleigh, N.C.; his 14 grandchildren; and 23 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; one sister, Charlotte; two brothers, Elmer and Donald; and two infant children, Karen and Robert. Mass of Resurrection for Fritz will be 1 p.m. Jan. 9, 2016, at St. Michael's Catholic Church, Cary, N.C. Interment will be at St. Aloysius Catholic Cemetery in Calmar in spring 2016.
