Arvin L. Guckenberger, 72, of Cedar Rapids, died Friday, May 1, 2015, at Mercy Medical Center. Funeral Mass: 11 a.m. Saturday at St. John XXIII Catholic Church, where there will be a visitation beginning at 9:30 a.m. Saturday. The Rev. Dustin Vu will officiate. Burial: Mount Calvary Cemetery. Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Survivors include his wife, Gail; three sons, Tom and Jeff, both of Cedar Rapids, and Jon (Jennifer) of Matthews, N.C.; three sisters, Janice Meyer of Preston, Marilyn Kilburg of Bellevue and Mary Yoerger of Davenport, Fla.; He also is survived by five grandchildren, Alex, Olivia, Abby, Jake and Cade.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Allen; father- and mother-in-law, Paul and Dorothy Gerischer; a niece, Lori Reader; and a nephew, Nick Yoerger.
Arvin was born May 10, 1942, in Bellevue, the son of Alvin and Helen Clasen Guckenberger. He married Gail P. Gerischer on Dec. 1, 1962, in Springbrook. Arvin was a driver for UPS for over 30 years, retiring in 1997.
He was a faithful member of St. John XXIII Catholic Church. He enjoyed playing baseball in his younger years and watching all sports, reading, hunting, fishing and especially the time spent with his beloved family and many friends.
Arvin was a wonderful husband, father, brother and grandfather whose memory will be cherished by all who knew and loved him.
