Douglas Lee Rhodes, 67, of Hiawatha, died June 6, 2016, at his home. A Celebration of Life will be 7 p.m. Friday, June 10, at River of Life Church in Cedar Rapids, with visitation one hour before the service with family. Reception will follow service. Private family graveside services: Oakshade Cemetery.
Doug was born Oct. 4, 1948, the son of Robert and Elisabeth (Martin) Rhodes in Cedar Rapids. He graduated from high school in 1967 in Torrance, Calif. In 1972, Doug returned to Cedar Rapids, where he began working for Iowa-Illinois Gas & Electric, now MidAmerican Energy, for 38 years before retiring in 2009. On July 3, 1988, he was married to Diane Elizabeth Cupp. Doug and Liz attended River of Life Church in Cedar Rapids, where Doug faithfully served as an usher, loved the Lord, and was a gentle man with a servant's heart.
Doug greatly enjoyed restoring cars in his youth and was an avid Iowa Hawkeye fan.
He was very much a family man and will be missed by all those who knew him.
Survivors include his wife, Liz Rhodes; four daughters, Kate Rhodes, Kimberly (Brennan) Budak, Cindy (Juan) DonDiego and Shelly (Theodore) Perkins; nine grandchildren, Mark (Mandy), Macy, Lorena, Marisa, Mateo, Alexis, Lily, Chloe and Ella; great-grandson, Eli; sister, Mary Jane (Roger) Timm; brother, Daniel (Cynthia) Rhodes; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Memorials may be directed to the family to be given to a charity at a later time in Doug's memory.
